River Stones – Balance Stepping Games

Our River Stones bring a splash of adventure and challenge to the lawn! Inspired by natural stepping stones, these chunky, colourful triangles encourage children (and even grown-ups!) to hop, balance and leap across without touching the ground. They’re robust, stackable, non-slip, and designed to build coordination, spatial awareness and confidence all through imaginative play.

How to Play – Fun with River Stones

Set-Up

  • Lay out six stones on the grass: three larger (about 360 mm wide and 85 mm high) and three smaller (approximately 250 mm wide and 45 mm high).
  • Space them out in a simple line, zigzag pattern, or create a mini obstacle route to step, jump or hop across.

Game Ideas

  • Colour Circuit: Call out colours, and players must step on the right stone.
  • Timed Relay: Using a stopwatch, players race to cross in under a time limit.
  • Musical Stones: Like musical chairs, when music stops, find a stone to stand on!
  • Balance Challenge: Try a sequence of only odd stones, or hop with one foot across the route.

Rules

  • Aim to reach the end without touching the ground.
  • If the first layout is easy, stretch the distances or change the stone orientation for greater challenge.
  • The rubber rim ensures they don’t slip—even on wet grass or indoors—and protects flooring.

Winning

  • This is less about competition and more about fun, movement and mastery.
  • Younger players may enjoy timed attempts or imaginative play scenarios (e.g. crossing a “river” or “lava”).
